Minutes are the legal and historical record of the proceedings, discussions, and decisions of a meeting. Taking minutes can be an intimidating task. This session will provide an overview of the key principles for minute taking and templates/samples for use and reference. It will also outline what information to record during the meetings, how to successfully write concise summaries and take good notes.

Senate Bylaws and Rules of Order and Procedures for Senate Committees

Rules of order and procedures are the agreed-upon framework, established by an organization’s governing body and/or parliamentary procedure rule book such as Robert’s Rules of Order, that governs how committees are run and meetings are conducted to ensure a fair, equitable, efficient, and open decision-making process.  This session will focus on rules of order and procedures for Senate committees, including committee composition, quorum, motions, voting, and member conduct and responsibilities.

FIPPA – Access and Privacy Requirements

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) provides a public right of access to institutional records and regulates how public institutions manage personal information. This session will provide an overview of FIPPA’s access provisions with a focus on the University's privacy obligations, tips on how to manage records, and processes for dealing with breaches of privacy.
