Blackboard Support is virtual!

Given the current situation with dealing with the COVID-19 Coronavirus, CTL's LMS Team members and CoOp students are available with virtual help, in the BB Cafe Organization site Virtual Classroom (link works only when logged in) or if that link doesn't work, use the guest link

If you require something customized that can't be addressed in the virtual classroom, please submit a ticket at uwindsor.ca/bbhelp and specify what you would like to discuss. We will try to arrange a mutual time to virtually discuss your topic. Please note - the volume for requests is high at this time so we will do our very best to support you based on availability. We appreciate your patience!

Hands-on workshops
Instructors and their assistants can join virtual classes which include some pedagogical best practices along with hands-on exercises detailing parts of Blackboard to prepare for online course delivery in 2-3 hour segments.

On a tight schedule but still want to see how to use the important assessment and grading tools in Blackboard, or other featured topics? Join in a Sprint Session, geared to demonstrating the essentials in under an hour.

Some of the hands-on sessions have been designed with activities and pace geared to your technological comfort level. Please choose the session that is right for you!

This option will offer a relaxed, and slower-paced workshop by placing an emphasis on step-by-step learning. This category is suitable for the emerging technical explorer or the learner who is new to using learning management systems.

Espresso session icon
Espresso Level
This option will offer a fast-paced more technically driven workshop. This category is suitable for the learner who is confident using learning management system tools, or other online systems, who possess a high comfort-level in learning and adopting new technology.

Assessment of Student Learning (Assignments & Tests)

Espresso session icon Hands-on session icon This workshop provides an introduction to Blackboard’s Assignments, Tests, Surveys, and Pools tools. Participants will learn to create, review, and deploy assignments and tests, discuss ways this tool can enhance interactivity in your course, and review the Pools segment of the tool. Pools allow for banks of questions to be created and reused. A demonstration of the importing MS Word tests to Blackboard using a test generator tool will also be featured.

Priority will be given to those with teaching assignments in the current or upcoming semester. You will need to become familiar with using Blackboard Collaborate in advance. Please review your confirmation email for instructions and links regarding preparing and accessing the session.

Bb Espresso Level:
This option will offer a fast-paced more technically driven workshop. This category is suitable for the learner who is confident using learning management system tools, or other online systems, who possess a high comfort level in learning and adopting new technology.

Blackboard & Microsoft 365 (incl. Teams) - Features and Limits This workshop will introduce instructors and their assistants to Blackboard Learn features that can partner with Microsoft 365 Apps including Streams and Teams. Topics include:
  • How the Blackboard / Teams integration works and what that does/does not include
  • An overview of Teams, chats, meetings, channels, and notifications
  • An overview of Stream and sharing videos, access control, limitations on sharing, transcriptions and captions
  • Comparison of the two synchronous tools - Bb Collab and Teams
  • Activating the team that maps to your Bb Course
  • Q & A

Further, while tempting and easy to go searching on the internet for course materials, you still need to consider copyright implications, so highlights of what instructors should know will be featured.

Sessional Saturday

Schedule: Saturday, August 28, 2021, 08:30 AM – 04:30 PM
Location: Online synchronous session using Blackboard Collaborate
This all-day event designed for new sessional instructors who are looking for a condensed version of using Blackboard will provide you with the information needed to open and use your course site. Topics include:
  • Getting Started in Blackboard, class lists, activating your site and site navigation
  • Adding Content to your site
  • Using the Discussion Board
  • Setting up and grading an assignment
  • Overview of online tests
  • Simple use of the Grade Centre
Participants will be involved in sprint session topics followed by some time to complete exercises. For topics that can't be completed during the session, links and resources will be shared for continued practice. Participants will need UWin IDs to be able to participate in Blackboard.
