Call for Proposals

Student engagement – the psychological investment students make in learning and learning contexts – has increasingly been seen as an indicator of successful teaching and learning cultures, student learning, and student success. This conference explores student engagement among post-secondary students, including both challenges and successes in engaging students in the college/university classroom. The conference will examine what the individual instructor and the university as a community, working towards common goals, can do to foster student engagement. Topics may include:

  • Models and practices for engaging students
  • First-year experiences
  • Service learning/civic engagement
  • The diversity of needs that learners bring to the classroom
  • Curriculum models and outreach strategies that engage students
  • Academic and student service programming designed to promote student learning, and foster student success.

The strength of any conference program depends in part on the contributions of colleagues willing to engage us in reflection on our collective practice in teaching and learning. We therefore invite your proposals for concurrent and poster sessions for the conference.

Types of Presentations

You may submit proposals for 45-minute concurrent sessions and poster presentations. Proposals should explore one of the following:

  • Research on teaching and learning
  • Innovative teaching and learning programs and practices that engage students
  • Administrative, organizational, or institutional initiatives in teaching and learning
  • Original professional development resources for faculty

The review process includes peer feedback, and in some cases, specific suggestions from members of the program committee. You may be asked to incorporate this input into your proposed session and resubmit the proposal before a final decision is made: participants and presenters at previous conferences have indicated that this collegial and constructive process resulted in improved sessions.
