Teaching and Learning in a Time of Information Abundance - an introduction

Schedule: Thursday, April 25, 2024, 12:00 PM – 01:00 PM
Location: Online, Zoom
Instructors: Dave Cormier
The abundance of information we have access to and the abundance of ways it is delivered has changed the way we learn in our every day lives. We watch Youtube videos to learn to play an instrument, read medical websites to learn more about our illnesses and use GenAI to craft resumes. How should this impact the way we teach and learn in Higher Education.
This is an introductory session examining the concept of information abundance and how the tools that make it work (Internet Search, GenAI, Websites) impact what it means for us to learn and to have learned.

10 Ways to adapt your Syllabus for GenAI (Updated)

Schedule: Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 12:00 PM – 01:00 PM
Location: Online, Zoom
Instructors: Dave Cormier
We are 18 months into GenAI tools like ChatGPT impacting our learning and our classrooms. Faculty have found interesting ways to use GenAI to do algorithmic tasks and we've all found different ways that students are using in our classes - some better than others. What practices are emerging? What new ways of thinking about our classrooms are out there? How have some of our initial attempts worked?
This session will address these issues and offer an opportunity for faculty to share their own experiences as well.
