Student Engagement

Fourth Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning
Oakland University, Rochester, MI
May 19-20, 2010

Student engagement – the psychological investment students make in learning and learning contexts – has increasingly been seen as an indicator of successful teaching and learning cultures, student learning, and student success. This conference will explore student engagement among post-secondary students, including the challenges and successes of engaging students in the college classroom. Participants will examine effective practices, curriculum models, outreach strategies, research, and academic and student service programming designed to promote student learning and foster student success. Topics may include models and practices for engaging students, diverse learning preferences, styles, and approaches; first-year experiences; service learning/civic engagement; and the diversity of needs that learners bring to the classroom. The conference will examine what the individual instructor and the university as a community, working towards common goals, can do to foster student engagement.

This conference is designed for faculty, academic administrators, staff including student service personnel, and students from post-secondary institutions. While the annual conference is an initiative of the University of Windsor and Oakland University, we welcome the participation of individuals from other post-secondary institutions.
