Much of your work as a TA/GA will be to provide students with your evaluative judgements
about their work. But, in addition to grading and providing effective feedback, you will also
employ skills like time management, interpersonal communication with professors and students,
and sound and critical judgement. This session will offer strategies to help you provide
constructive, meaningful feedback aimed at helping students to improve. Participants will also
be given tips on instructor and student correspondence, and be offered a practical opportunity to
practice employing the strategies learned in this session.

Labs and tutorials represent both a large percentage of an undergraduate science students’ class time and an opportunity to concretize and clarify concepts from readings and lectures. As a GA/TA, you will be an important contact for students as they navigate course material, but as a student yourself, you may not consider yourself an expert in the subject you are teaching. In this workshop, we will explore ways in which you can address and encourage questions from your students, even when you are not confident in your own knowledge and experience with the topic.
