David Andrews
A professor in Kinesiology, David Andrews teaches Functional Anatomy and Human Factors at the undergraduate level, and Occupational Biomechanics at the graduate level. His main body of research in biomechanics and ergonomics focuses on musculoskeletal injury prevention during work, non-work, and sport activities. Since 2000, his lab has studied the body’s response to impacts, such as those experienced through the upper and lower extremities during running and landing from a fall, respectively, or to the head following collisions during sports such as football and hockey. David’s research interests related to teaching and learning include peer observation of teaching, educational leadership, the midcareer faculty experience, increasing diversity in human anatomy instructional practices, and flexible assessment in higher education. He works extensively with both undergraduate and graduate students in all his research efforts to provide opportunities for skill development and career preparation in various disciplines. An extremely proud recipient of teaching awards at the institutional, provincial, and national levels, he is genuinely motivated to get to know every student he interacts with and to offer them with the best learning experience possible. With respect to leadership roles, David is a Past President of the Canadian Society for Biomechanics, the former Research Leadership Chair and Teaching Leadership Chair for the Faculty of Human Kinetics, and the Head of the Department of Kinesiology. He is a member of several national and international societies in biomechanics, ergonomics, and teaching and learning, and he serves broadly in support of the University of Windsor.
