Karen Robson

Dr. Robson is Associate Professor of Marketing at the Odette School of Business. She holds a BSc in Psychology from Queen’s University, an MA in Psychology and MBA from Simon Fraser University. She completed her PhD at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University in 2016. Her research investigates consumer innovativeness and the gamification of consumer experiences. Dr. Robson has taught a wide range of university courses, including Principles of Marketing, Advertising Management, Integrated Marketing Management, Managerial Economics, and Organizational Analysis. She has published over thirty peer-reviewed teaching cases with associated teaching notes through Ivey and SAGE Publishing, including the Ivey bestselling case titled ‘Does Mattel Inc.’s Iconic Barbie Need a Makeover?’. She serves on the Editorial Boards of the SAGE Express Case collection, the Journal of Marketing Education, and Business Horizons. She has published a number of papers on higher education in marketing, including papers in Journal of Marketing Education titled ‘Teaching Fast And Slow: Student Perceptions Of Emergency Remote Education’ (2022), ‘Motivating Professional Student Behavior Through A Gamified Personal Branding Assignment’ (2019), and ‘Using Cartoons To Teach Corporate Social Responsibility: A Class Exercise’ (2013).
