When students are more engaged, they involve themselves with course
material at a personal level. They also take more responsibility
for their own learning, creating a reinvigorated, more passionate
classroom environment. During this workshop, Dr. Joy Mighty will
lead attendees through thought-provoking activities designed to
reveal engaging teaching practices. The seminar will cover: the
relationship of student engagement to success, fresh ideas for
engaging millennial students, overcoming barriers to greater
student engagement, engaging students from freshman through senior
year, experiential learning opportunities, using “real life”
examples in class, the role of prompt feedback, using multimedia
technologies in classes, and peer-to-peer learning exercises. Dr.
Mighty will answer questions from participants during the seminar.
Participants will identify more effective teaching practices for
their own individual classes and come away with a targeted action
plan ready for implementation.
