The GTL Fellows across campus are dedicated to improving the experience, abilities, and support for graduate and undergraduate students that are involved in assisting with the teaching and delivery of courses either as GA/TAs or otherwise.
Workshops offered by GTL Fellows will be based in their respective Faculty and will target the specific needs of that Faculty’s GA/TAs.
If you have any questions about the GTL Fellowship Program, contact Dr. Laura Chittle at Laura.Chittle@uwindsor.ca.

Engineering - Recognizing and Managing Imposter Phenomenon
Impostor Phenomenon (IP) is commonly experienced by individuals in academia and is characterized as an intellectual feeling of phoniness that can undermine confidence in oneself. However, many students do not realize how common this phenomenon is. In this workshop, we will share some results from a campus-wide survey we recently conducted on the Impostor Phenomenon in undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, staff, and faculty members. We will also provide practical tips and resources for recognizing and managing feelings of impostorism.
Registrants will be emailed the link to the Virtual Classroom 2 days before the workshop.

Active Learning: What it is and how to use it in Engineering Labs and Tutorials
Suppose you are a GA/TA in a lab or tutorial, and you notice students are exhausted from classes. How might you spark their interest? Active learning strategies can be a light in the tunnel of tiredness and inactivity. In this interactive session led by GA facilitators and a panel of Engineering Faculty members, participants will be introduced to active learning principles as well as strategies that they can adapt to their own labs and tutorials.
Pizza will be provided by the Faculty of Engineering!!

Let’s Talk Teaching Squares – A Community of Practice for GA/TAs
Are you interested in developing your teaching? Would you like to learn from watching other GAs/TAs teach? If so, join our Teaching Squares Community of Practice where we will introduce the idea of peer observation and coordinate opportunities to see one another teach.
In this workshop you will:
- Learn new teaching techniques and ideas to use in your own teaching.
- Learn from your peers’ teaching and reflect on your own teaching.
- Gain transferrable skills applicable in your mentorship roles such as providing constructive feedback and reflecting on the process.
- Gather information to improve your CV and teaching dossier for your career and academic positions.
The Teaching Squares workshop will be held in two sessions: pre-observation, and post-observation.
- During the first session we will introduce the concept of teaching squares, discuss strategies for collecting information during the teaching observation, form groups, and coordinate times to observe one another teach.
- During the second session we will share what we learned from observing one another teach and discuss how we might adapt our own teaching practices.
